Originally we had planned on focusing solely on North Italy, including a long stay in Tuscany, drinking wine, frolicking in vineyards, and taking it slow. But a few friends shared strenuously that if we did nothing else
About Rome
Rome is a sprawling, modern and simultaneous ancient city. The alleys and roads are vast, the pedestrian-clogged streets are pervasive, the cathedrals are as numerous as Starbucks in the US. Rome is an ancient city and its history sparks the nucleus of western civilization, for better and for worse. The internet is teeming with travel articles about Rome, so the reader is encouraged to decide what their objectives are (galleries? museums? ancient ruins? food? all the above?) and plan accordingly. But save room for the accidental cafe, like the El Greco, continuously in operation since 1760 AD. Or the Trevi Fountain after midnight, sparkling still, with a fraction of the day crowd. Rome is mythical, wondrous, ancient, modern, and complex. It may take a lifetime for anyone to truly appreciate.
The Airbnb We Chose
Our Rome Airbnb – hosted by Giulio. Wonderful location between the Spanish Steps and Trevi Fountain. Giulio went out of his way to prepare us and make us feel at home.
