Want to Travel to Italy & Maximize Your Money?

Many have asked us how we were able to get such great deals for our trip to Italy ($470 RT from Seattle to Milan!). Below I outline a few of my tips and tricks, and provide you with direct links so that you can spend your dough on the experience, not the logistics. As I have mentioned throughout – part of this starts with Airbnb (instead of resorts/hotels/etc) where you get to live like a local and have most if not all of the amenities of a hotel.

Below are the Best Tips, Tricks, & Deals we found for traveling to Italy

Flights

Scott’s Cheap Flights is a great resource for searching for amazing international travel tickets. Through this service, we found round trip tickets for $470 each from Seattle to Milan. Sign up for the free version first and see if it is a service that can help you on your travel journeys.

Flights.Google.com – this is a great tool to determine the optimal dates to maximize value.

Smartphone Apps

Additionally, this is a good article on the Rick Steve’s forum for travel apps to help you.

Trainline (iOS version) – (Android version) this app allowed us to research schedules and book train tickets right from our smartphone. It became one of the most important apps for us while Airbnb’ing across Italy – super convenient.

Maps.me (mobile app install links from the main site) – Was ideal for traveling and navigating strange cities. Before you depart, make sure to download the maps that are relevant to you. Example – Rome is one map, Venice is another, Cinque Terre is another. Then when you are in that city, the map will use your GPS and put you on the map. Google Maps is flakey in Italy, we found Maps.me to be much more accurate and not get a strange case of the flipflop jitters like Google Maps.
